The City of Soledad will turn 100 years old on March 9, 2021, and we are starting to plan for our City’s Centennial Celebration.
We would like to invite schools, civic groups, churches, clubs, individuals – anyone interested – to a Zoom Planning Meeting to be held on December 1, 2020 at 7:00 p.m. The City has ideas for events to be held monthly, to celebrate all year long, but we want your ideas and your help. If your group is interested in helping, we would like for each organization to have a representative attend the Zoom Meeting with ideas and offers of help. Together we can make our Soledad Centennial an amazing year of events and memories.
We encourage groups the opportunity to hold their own event, but in an effort to coordinate efforts and not duplicate any events, we would like for each group to share their ideas with us first before the meeting. Please return the attached form and let us know if your group is interested in helping.
Together we can plan the best Centennial celebration!
If you are not able to attend remotely, limited access will be available at City Hall for attending in person, with social distancing requirements limiting the number of attendees. Please RSVP to Tencia Vargas at (831) 223-5016 to reserve an in-person spot.

Soledad Military Banner Program
The City of Soledad is proud to recognize Soledad residents who have served or are actively serving in the Military through the Military Banner Program. The service person will be honored with a banner displaying his/her name and picture and branch of service and will be proudly hung on Front Street in Soledad. Applications are being accepted and will be installed prior to Veteran’s Day, 2020. Eligibility requirements are as follows:
- Honoree has served or is currently serving in the United States Armed Forces; AND
- Honoree is a current Soledad resident OR is an immediate family member of a Soledad resident (spouse, child, parent, grandchild, sibling)
- Applicant much be a Soledad resident AND an immediate family member of Honoree
Residency must be verifiable with a current utility bill, driver’s license or other form of identification listing a current City of Soledad address.

Soledad Surplus Auction
The City of Soledad in the process of cleaning out old inventory, vehicles and hardware from our facilities that are available for sale by silent auction.
Bid requirements and conditions:
- Sold “as is” to highest bidder.
- Items can be previewed September 30th from 2-4PM at the City of Soledad Corp Yard located at 1060 State Street, Soledad, CA 93960. Paper form bids may also be submitted at this location.
- Successful bidder is responsible for removal and all transportation costs no later than 4:30PM Friday, October 2, 2020. City will not be responsible for items after said date and time.
- Cash, credit card or money order sales only.
- Bids will be accepted no later than Wednesday, September 30th, 2020 at 4:00PM.

Our Lady of Solitude Fiesta
The Our Lady of Solitude Fiesta is celebrated annually on the second Sunday in August. The street fair takes place on Soledad Street between Market Street and North Street. The event features regional music and dancing for all tastes, traditional Native American and Mexican dance demonstrations, home cooked food and refreshing beverages made by the congregation. There are games and activities for people of all ages along with raffle prizes. This is a major fundraiser for the faith community and their community outreach programs. Soledad Mission Shopping Center Back-to-School Event
Each year in September, Shaw Development hosts a Back-to-School event at the Soledad Mission Shopping Center for Soledad students heading back to school. Local dignitaries join with teachers, principals, and school district staff to kick off the school year. Businesses in the shopping center join in and donate raffle prizes such as school supplies and gift cards. The Soledad High School band, NJROTC, cheerleaders, local dance groups, and school athletes provide a pep-rally atmosphere that contributes to the enthusiasm of the event. This event is well-attended by up to 500 parents and students from the community. Notice of the event’s date and time is distributed through flyers and automated phone calls to student households within the Soledad Unified School District.
Los Coches Animal Hospital Annual Low-cost Vaccination Clinic & Dog License Event
The Soledad Police Department’s animal control division and Los Coches Animal Hospital hold an annual low-cost vaccination and dog license event around the first or second week of April. The event takes place at Albert “Bill” Ramus Memorial Park at 215 Soledad Street. Vaccinations for dogs are offered on a first-come-first-served basis. This is a cash-only event.
Weekly Farmer’s Market (Seasonal)
The Soledad Certified Farmer’s Market runs from early April through the middle of October. Each week on Thursday, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., the 100 block of Soledad Street is closed off to traffic for this open-air market. Regional growers bring their seasonal fruits and vegetables to market. The market also includes delicious locally baked goods, nuts and candies, nursery plants and flowers, and plenty of delicious local food. The market is sponsored by the Soledad Historical Society and proceeds from market operations provide funding for the museum and its outreach programs. Chamber of Commerce Annual Christmas Parade
This annual holiday parade takes place on the first Saturday of December. The parade has been hosted by the Soledad Chamber of Commerce for more than thirty years. Parade organizers are always looking for more participants, floats, and corporate/organization mascots. Businesses and community groups are welcome to participate and show off their organization’s officers riding in cars, hay wagons, or floats. “Show-offs” are welcome!
