Soledad, Calif., (March 21, 2018) – The National Council for Home Safety and Security recently released The Safest Cities in California 2018 report that highlights the top 100 safest cities in California. In the ranking, only two Monterey County cities made the top 100, the City of Soledad which ranked #27, and the City of Pacific Grove which ranked #96.

“This ranking is a direct result of the hard work and dedication of our Soledad Police Department,” said Michael McHatten, City Manager, City of Soledad. “As the safest city in Monterey County, we welcome tourist to spend a day in our community and enjoy the very best that our city has to offer.”

According to the report, for every 1,000 residents, the City averaged three violent crimes, and eight property crimes in 2017.

In an effort to continue suppressing crime within the City, local leaders have invested in the installation of cameras throughout Soledad. Additionally, the Soledad Police Department spends a significant amount of time building relationships with the community, including training officers to be multi-lingual in an effort to strengthen the relationship with segments of the community that traditionally have not had a strong relationship with law enforcement.
