Over the past three months, the City of Soledad Public Works Water Division has made significant upgrades to improve our water infrastructure by repairing and replacing approximately 100 water meters across the city. This includes replacing around 60 broken meters—a significant increase compared to our usual 10-12 meter replacements per month.
As water meters age, they can slow down and may under record the amount of water used. To maintain accuracy, we replace meters based on their size and installation date. Most water meters have a life expectancy of about 15-20 years. These new meters come with cellular technology. This technology allows for automatic data collection and wireless transmission to a mobile handheld device used by our operators. The data is then seamlessly uploaded to our billing system, ensuring accurate and timely monthly billing for all residents.
