The Soledad Police Department’s Community Police Academy meets twice a year, one night a week, for 8 consecutive weeks, from 6 – 9 p.m. During this bi-lingual program, you will be exposed to the various aspects of law enforcement and how the Soledad Police Department operates. Topics and presentations will include an overview of the entire organization, Professional Standards Unit, K-9 Unit, Field Operations, Investigations Division (Task Force), Laws of Arrest, Firearms and Non-Lethal tools, Police Investigations, Traffic Enforcement Unit, Crime Scene Investigation Unit, and Community Policing.

Community Police Academy participants will have an opportunity to go on a ride-along with a patrol officer, K-9 Officer, or Detective. You see what the Investigations Division does, learn all about our Crime Scene Investigation Unit, participate in various scenarios, watch demonstrations of the K-9 program, A visit to the department range with our Range Masters, learn about the Professional Standards Unit and our hiring process of police officers and much more.

Each night features a new topic, with speakers, demonstrations, and discussions. In addition, we will answer questions and give an in-depth, behind-the-scenes look at the operations of the Soledad Police Department. Our goal is to have you see this through our eyes.

Applicants must be at least 18 years old, live or work in Soledad, or be involved in a community-based organization that provides services to Soledad residents. In addition, applicants must not be on probation or parole or have any recent felonies on their record. Class size is limited to 25 – 30 students, so please do not wait to apply.
